One of the most striking Serbian jazz vocalists on the world stage is coming home for one night. Sofija Knezevic performs with her quintet alongside trombonist Elliot Mason on July 22 at the Blues & Beer club in Belgrade - an intimate jazz evening with two names that regularly share the stage with the very top of world jazz.

Knezevic graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, in the class of Dena DeRose, where she studied on a full scholarship from the age of 16. Elle magazine put her at the top of its 30 under 30 list, and her debut album SOFIJAZZ picked up nine international awards. Her path has crossed with names like Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Christian McBride and the Jazz at Lincoln Center orchestra.

On stage with her will be her husband, trombonist Elliot Mason, with whom she has co-composed music for MoMA in New York and the Crystal Bridges museum in Arkansas. The combination of her voice and his trombone, backed by the quintet, promises an evening in which world jazz lands in one small Belgrade club - a rarity worth catching.

The show at Blues & Beer starts at 8 pm, and tickets are available through tickets.rs. For a jazz evening with performers of this caliber in an intimate setting, this is one of the more interesting summer opportunities in Belgrade.
