Slovenian DJ Umek plays Rijeka's Klub Crkva on October 17. It is the first time this season that Zagreb's club brand Future Scope has come down to the Rijeka coast, and the night starts at 11pm and runs until six in the morning.

Uros Umek was born in Ljubljana in 1976 and has been active since 1993. He literally started the electronic scene in Slovenia - first by organising illegal raves, then by becoming the country's best-known musical export. In 1999 he founded Consumer Recreation and Recycled Loops, and in 2007 the big techno brand 1605, a label with more than 140 releases from over 250 artists. In 2010 he took the Beatport Music Awards prize for best techno artist.

Umek's story carries a particular weight for anyone who remembers the nineties in this region. A man who started with raves the police turned up to as if to a misdemeanour is today a state musical ambassador, and his releases land at the top of the world techno charts as a matter of routine. The road from an illegal event to that status is not a common one in this neighbourhood.

Klub Crkva in Rijeka is one of the most recognisable coastal club spaces, and Future Scope choosing to open the season outside Zagreb says the Rijeka crowd carries weight of its own. Tickets via entrio.hr go up to 27 euros, or roughly 1,663 denars.
