Hard rock band Atomsko skloniste, out of Pula, marks fifty years with a concert at Zagreb's Kino SC on November 20. Doors from 7pm, with guests joining them on stage.

The band formed in Pula in the second half of the seventies, and this year the organisers are counting the fiftieth birthday from February 1976. The first line-up was Bosko Obradovic as founder and leader, Serdjo Blazic on vocals, Sasa Dadic on drums, Dragan Guzvan on guitar and Bruno Langer on bass. The first two studio albums, "Ne cvikaj generacijo" and "Infarkt", both came out in 1978 and made them popular across the whole of Yugoslavia.

What Atomsko skloniste is remembered for is not only the music but the early anti-war concept, built into the band's own name. A group that in the seventies named itself after a nuclear shelter was not making a stylistic choice - it was reading what was happening around it. That this sounded excessive in the seventies and does not sound excessive today is worth more than any anniversary.

Kino SC is a Zagreb venue with a student tradition, which for a fiftieth anniversary is the right call: not a big arena with a sponsor's banner, but a hall where the audience is close. Tickets are available through entrio.hr.
