The monodrama Milunka is performed on July 26 at the Residence of Princess Ljubica in Belgrade, as part of the thirty-third BELEF. The ticket is 500 dinars through tickets.rs, and the start is at 8.30 pm.
BELEF, the Belgrade Summer Festival, runs this year from June 20 to September 22 and has over forty programmes at several locations across the city. It opened on June 20 at Sava Centar with the musical Cigani lete u nebo by the Terazije Theatre. Part of the programme is free entry, and part carries a symbolic price like this one.
The Residence of Princess Ljubica is one of the most beautiful festival locations. It is a nineteenth-century house in the old part of Belgrade, built for the wife of Prince Miloš Obrenović, today a museum. Performing a monodrama in an interior like that changes the whole experience: the viewer sits in a room that is itself part of the set.
The price of 500 dinars, around 260 denars, is one of the lowest for a theatre performance in the Serbian capital this season. That is a deliberate policy of the festival, which keeps part of the programme accessible to an audience that does not otherwise go to the theatre.
Tickets are on sale through tickets.rs. The same cycle at the Residence brings concerts and plays all summer, with dates in August.
