Black Coffee is coming to Skopje for a concert at Stadion ARM on Friday, June 19 at 21:00. The South African DJ and producer is the first African artist to win a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album - "Subconsciously" in 2022 - and one of the most recognisable voices of "afropolitan house" over the past decade.
Born Nkosinati Maphumulo, the DJ from Durban started his career in 1994, with his breakthrough coming via the remix of Hugh Masekela's "Stimela" in 2005 - the same day he founded the production house Soulistic Music. Beyond the Grammy, his shelf includes eight South African Music Awards, four DJ Awards and two Metro FM Awards. "Subconsciously" featured collaborations with Pharrell Williams, Diplo, RyX, Usher and David Guetta - the kind of guest list that tells you how thoroughly the Balkans missed this scene the first time around.
The Drake collaboration is particularly notable - Black Coffee co-wrote and co-produced three songs from the 2022 album "Honestly, Nevermind," and the older "Get It Together" with Drake was one of the biggest crossover hits of his career. The Stadion ARM set is expected to be in his signature style: deep house at the base, with a layer of South African percussion and long gradations that regularly fill festival floors from Tulum to Ibiza.
Tickets range from 1,990 to 2,990 denars and are sold through karti.com.mk. The concert starts at 21:00 at the open-air Stadion ARM - a big summer set under the Skopje sky, which doesn't happen often enough at this level.
