Bobi Valchev at the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv on October 3 - a candlelit jazz concert by the Bulgarian musician who has played alongside Herbie Hancock

Bulgarian jazz musician Bobi Valchev holds a "Candlelit Jazz Concert" at the Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv on October 3, 2026 at 7 p.m. The concert is part of his own project "The Light of Music", and the programme was prepared specially for the Roman stage.

Valchev was born in Sofia and started playing piano early. He studied trumpet at the "Lyubomir Pipkov" music school, then jazz piano and composition at the National Academy of Music in Sofia, with further studies in London. He was an assistant in Milcho Leviev's masterclass. He built his international career based in Dubai, where he shared stages and events with Herbie Hancock, Chris Botti, George Benson and Marcus Miller. In 2021 the government of the United Arab Emirates granted him a golden visa for his contribution to culture.

In Plovdiv he'll play jazz standards and international hits in new arrangements, as well as his latest original music. On stage with him are Dimitar Lyolev on saxophone, Todor Bakardzhiev on trumpet, Kiril Zafirov on trombone, Nikolay Popgeorgiev on guitar, Aleksandar Lekov on bass and Nacho Gospodinov on drums. Special guest is violinist Galina Wilcox.

Tickets on bilet.bg cost 16 to 51 euros, roughly 990 to 3,140 denars. Plovdiv's Ancient Theatre in October, lit by candles, is a stage that can rarely be recreated in an indoor hall.
