Crochet Is Trendy Again: Zara Sells for 25 Euros What Grandmothers Used to Make at Home

Crochet is trendy again. Not as grandma's handiwork, but as a summer collection at Zara. For spring-summer 2026, the Spanish giant has dropped four pieces of this traditional handmade material and put them on the shelf for 25 to 36 euros.

First - a brown crochet top, priced at 25.95 euros. A piece that can be worn over a swimsuit, or with wide-leg trousers for an evening out. Neutral enough for various combinations, handmade enough not to read as mass production.

Second - a long crochet skirt, 25.95 euros. Natural tones, rustic design, „ganchillo" details. Marketed as a summer essential for the beach, the street, or an evening at a restaurant near the sea.

Third - a combined crochet blouse for 27.95 euros. Romantic - for dinner by the coast or for city style with jeans. Czech media casually call it „madikorska", though it's really just the most widespread Mediterranean summer style.

Fourth - a short crochet dress with fringe, 35.95 euros. A piece for special occasions - festivals, the beach, open-air weddings. Something for the young guests, not the bride.

Stylists explain the appeal simply: „These handmade pieces show patience and hours stitched into them, which makes them a special material with a strong Mediterranean identity." In other words - crochet offers what fast fashion can't. A piece that looks made by someone, not pushed out of a Bangladesh factory.

Whether this is the moment's trend or the start of a swing toward slower fashion - hard to say. But the fact remains that Zara is selling a 25-euro crochet top, while in our grandmothers' memory - crochet was made at home, for free. Something in that loop says more about us than about fashion.
