Basketball today: LeBron picks between three clubs, Giannis lands in Miami, Macedonia crushes Georgia

LeBron narrowed it to three clubs, but he's staying quiet

The biggest soap opera of this NBA summer has a name: LeBron James. At 41, the four-time champion told the Los Angeles Lakers he isn't coming back, and now the whole league is waiting to see where he puts his signature. Three teams are in the mix - Cleveland, Miami and Philadelphia. „I spent eight great years with the Lakers, it was an incredible ride," James said on the „Mind the Game" podcast, without a single hint about the next destination. „Wherever I end up, it'll be fun." The man who controlled the narrative his entire career is running the last chapter by his own rules too.

Durant votes for Cleveland: a homecoming with a movie ending

Asked where LeBron would go, Kevin Durant - now a Houston star - didn't hesitate long. „From the heart, if I have to pick one, I'd say Cleveland. But Philadelphia has a big shot too," said James's eternal rival. Cleveland is the favourite because of a story that writes itself: the four-time MVP returning to where he started, for a second time. Philadelphia, meanwhile, after the Jaylen Brown transfer, has beefed up a race led by Tyrese Maxey. Durant and LeBron have shared countless battles - from the regular season to Olympic gold in 2012 and 2024 - and when asked whether they'd ever play together, Durant just smiled.

Giannis and Bam: two heads of the same snake in Miami

While Miami is being floated as a possible LeBron destination, another star has already landed there. Giannis Antetokounmpo introduced himself as a Heat player and immediately praised the new front line with Bam Adebayo. „I usually sleep eight hours before a game. With Bam I slept 12," Giannis jokes. „He's a fighter, a worker, easy to be around." Greek by heritage, born in Athens, he insists the intensity of the two leaders will drag the whole team along. „When the two heads of the snake compete and grind, everyone else follows." Miami is building something the rest of the East will be watching closely.

Macedonia crushes Georgia and plays for ninth place

The young national team of Macedonia (under-20) played a match to enjoy at the European Championship, B division. A commanding 97:62 over Georgia and a spot in the fight for ninth place at the tournament. Our boys dominated from the first minute - 22:16 in the first quarter, 31:19 by half-time, and then they just widened the gap. Marko Lukanoski led with 16 points, while Bojan Dimitriev and Atanasij Trajanov added 13 each. Thirty-five points of margin against a team of the same level - that's not a fluke, it's a generation on the rise.

MZT Skopje learns its rivals in the FIBA Europe Cup

MZT Skopje Aerodrom will fight on three fronts next season - the domestic league, the ABA2 league and the FIBA Europe Cup. The draw dropped the „storks" into a tough group: guaranteed rivals are Greece's Iraklis and Estonia's Tartu, and the group also contains Germany's Würzburg, Cyprus's AEL Larnaca and Poland's Legia Warsaw - though those three first play qualifiers for the Champions League. MZT will play at least 10 European games, the first on 7 October away at Iraklis, with the group stage starting on 29 and 30 September. Skopje has a European autumn again - and that's no small thing for a club from a country with budgets that don't compare to the Greek ones.
