Miroslav Ilic, one of the best-selling folk singers the former Yugoslavia ever produced, performs in Plovdiv on November 14, 2026. The concert is at the Kolodrum sports hall, doors to music at 8pm, and it is billed as a benefit for a living legend.
Ilic was born on December 10, 1950, in Mrcajevci near Cacak, and he cut his first record while he was still in primary school. The breakthrough came in 1972 with the single "Voleo sam devojku iz grada", and the nickname Nightingale of Mrcajevci has followed him ever since. His music is tied to Sumadija in a way that has nothing to do with marketing - it is the region he was born in, and its speech and its melody run through almost everything he has recorded.
With him, the numbers say more than any description can. The 1982 album "Shvatio sam, ne mogu bez tebe" sold nine hundred thousand copies - a figure no performer in this region gets anywhere near today. Total sales across the former Yugoslavia top eight million records. He marked fifty years on stage with two back-to-back concerts at the Belgrade Arena in December 2022.
The Plovdiv show is part of his regular run through Bulgaria, where his repertoire has had an audience since Yugoslav times. Kolodrum is a multi-purpose hall with serious capacity. Tickets are on sale through eventim.bg, and for readers in Macedonia, Plovdiv is about four hours away - a genuine weekend trip for anyone who knows these songs.
