Swedish punk veterans Perkele play Osijek for the first time, at a big open-air concert in the courtyard of the Old Bakery on September 5. After more than three decades on stage, the band comes to Slavonia as part of its tour, with local support from home-grown punk acts.

Perkele formed in Gothenburg in 1993 and ranks among the continent's most recognisable Oi! and street-punk bands. The band is led by founder, singer and guitarist Ron Halinoja, and the name is taken from a Finnish curse - a detail that has for years confused listeners about the origins of the group, which is in fact Swedish. Over more than thirty years Perkele has developed its sound, skilfully combining elements of heavy metal, classic rock and more accessible tones while keeping its raw punk identity.

The Osijek concert is opened by two support acts - Loš Primer, a punk-rock and hardcore institution from Požega, and Kiseli, a new Osijek band made up of former members of cult local groups. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the main show begins at 8 p.m. in the Old Bakery courtyard, a space that in recent years has grown into one of the liveliest concert venues in eastern Croatia.

Tickets sell through entrio.hr, from 30 euros in presale to 40 euros at the door. For punk lovers from Macedonia and the region who want to see the legends of European street-punk live, Perkele's first appearance in Osijek is an event not to be missed.
