As part of the cross-border IPA project "Green Urban Area and Urban Garden in Kumanovo" under the Interreg (VI-A) Bulgaria-Macedonia programme, Kumanovo is receiving significant green infrastructure aimed at reducing air pollution.

At the "Pero Nakov" secondary school, pergolas, decorative lampposts, benches, waste bins and pedestrian paths have already been installed. In the "October Revolution" neighbourhood, 220 trees over two metres tall have been planted, and another 130 at "Third MUB". New saplings have been planted in the yards of the economics and technical schools, and drainage channels have been installed near the sports hall.

The project envisions the construction of "rain gardens" — sustainable drainage systems that improve stormwater management and reduce the risk of local flooding. In addition, 740 decorative flowers have been planted, and a green barrier to reduce traffic dust is planned at "Marshal Tito" square.

Works will continue on "3 MUB" boulevard, "Marshal Tito" square and near the "Prof. Mijalkovič" institution, while small urban gardens are planned at three roundabouts. The deadline for completing the entire project is the end of 2026.
