Looking for more events? The full calendar of concerts and events in Macedonia and the region is in one place.
The Rebel club in Ohrid is turning the lakeshore into one of the most serious techno destinations in the region this summer. From July to the end of August, its stage lines up names usually heard on Ibiza and in Berlin's clubs, not fifty kilometres from Bitola - globally known DJs coming through a whole summer series of shows.
The series opens with Anii on July 11, and right after comes one of the biggest names of the whole programme - Sasha on July 25. The Welshman Alexander Coe, known simply as Sasha, is one of the living legends of progressive house and techno: his "Xpander" is still considered one of the best trance tracks ever, and the "Northern Exposure" series of mix albums he made with John Digweed shaped the whole electronic scene in the nineties. He has remixed for Madonna, Moby and The Chemical Brothers.
The calendar continues with Nakadia on July 18, the Thai DJ with a global career, then Victor Ruiz on August 2 and Christian Smith on August 8 - two heavy hitters of the contemporary techno scene who together created the "Drone Sector" project. The series closes with Anna Reusch on August 15 and Adriana on August 22. All the shows start around midnight and run until morning, in the format of a real club set.
Tickets for individual nights cost 500 denars and are available via mktickets.mk. For lovers of electronic music in Macedonia, this is a rare chance to see these names without travelling abroad - and with Lake Ohrid as the backdrop.
