President of Macedonia Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova convened an emergency session of the Security Council at 6:00 pm on 1 March 2026 at Villa Vodno, following consultations with the relevant institutions regarding developments in the Middle East.

The session was attended by the highest representatives of executive power: Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Assembly Speaker Afrim Gashi, Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski, Defence Minister Vlado Misajlovski, Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski, as well as security and foreign policy experts.

The main topic of the meeting was the assessment of the security implications for Macedonia following the military-political escalations in the Middle East region. The Security Council is the highest advisory body responsible for reviewing risks related to defence and national security, and submits proposals to the Assembly and the Government.

The session was held immediately after the Iranian regime confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, eliminated in an Israeli air operation against Tehran. Tensions in the region continue with threats of retaliatory strikes and new military actions across the Persian Gulf states.

The Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs simultaneously set up a crisis team available 24 hours a day to assist Macedonian citizens in threatened areas of the Middle East. Eleven citizens officially requested evacuation through the Macedonian embassy in Tel Aviv.
