Jazz outfit Skime play the Blues & Beer club in Belgrade on November 5 from 8pm. The quartet, formed in Belgrade in 2015, belongs to the small group of local bands that put out albums on foreign labels rather than only working the club circuit.

The line-up is saxophonist Luka Ignjatović, pianist Sava Miletić, bassist Boris Šainović and drummer Peđa Milutinović. The debut album "Do You Really Wanna Play?" came out on Metropolis Records in 2016 and holds six compositions written by Ignjatović. The second, "Visualisation", was released by the Swiss label Unit Records in May 2018 - a step most bands from this part of the world never take.

October 2023 brought "Ursa Major", their fourth album, out on every digital platform. That works out to roughly one album every two years, in a period when the local jazz scene mostly runs on one-off projects and festival bookings with no continuity of releases. That continuity is exactly what is worth noting here.

Miletić said in an interview that it is encouraging to witness genuine respect for jazz in Serbia - which, coming from a musician in this category, reads as a measured observation rather than marketing. The band also turns up regularly at festivals such as Jazz in the Gardens, playing to an audience that did not wander in by accident.
