Swallow the Sun, the Finnish death-doom band that has been building one of the heaviest catalogues in the genre since 2000, play JOY Station in Sofia on October 15, 2026. Doors at 8pm.

The band was founded by guitarist Juha Raivio, and their sound welds funeral doom to melodic death, gothic metal and Scandinavian folk melodies. It is a combination that sounds overloaded in most bands' hands and works in theirs because every layer has a job to do. The debut album "The Morning Never Came" came out in November 2003, and they have nine studio releases since.

The two most significant points in their discography could hardly be more different. In 2015 they put out "Songs from the North I, II & III" - a triple album, a move few bands risk. In 2019 came "When a Shadow Is Forced Into the Light", written after the death of Aleah Stanbridge, Raivio's partner, and it is their most emotional record. The most recent one, "Shining", arrived on October 18, 2024 via Century Media.

The Sofia show falls almost exactly on that album's second anniversary. Tickets run from 31.70 to 41.93 leva via eventim.bg. JOY Station is a limited-capacity club, which for this kind of sound matters more than size - doom metal in a big hall loses the very thing that makes it doom.
