Tanec and Lado at the Heraclea Ancient Theatre in Bitola on July 8 - The Macedonian and Croatian National Ensembles in a Joint Night Under the Stars

The Macedonian ensemble Tanec and the Croatian ensemble Lado perform a joint concert at Heraclea Ancient Theatre in Bitola on July 8, 2026 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale through kupikarta.com at 1,200 denars, and the program is titled „One Night Under the Stars".

Tanec, Macedonia's national ensemble of folk dances and songs, was founded by a decree of the PRM Government in 1949 with the task of collecting, preserving and presenting the country's folklore - the dances, songs, instruments and costumes. The first official performance was on June 24, 1950, and the same year the ensemble won first prize at the international festival in Llangollen in the UK. The collection covers more than 90 choreographies and around 3,000 authentic costumes from every region of Macedonia.

Lado is Croatia's professional ensemble of folk songs and dances, founded in 1949 in Zagreb - the same year Tanec was founded, which means the two ensembles share parallel 75-year careers as cultural ambassadors for their countries. Lado has more than 150 choreographies from every Croatian region and a repertoire that includes more than 800 folk songs.

The joint concert at Heraclea is a rare chance to see the dialogue between two national traditions in the same night, on the stage of one of the region's most striking ancient theatres. Tickets are 1,200 denars through kupikarta.com, start at 8:30 p.m.
