Tinariven vo Sofija na 15 maj

Tinariwen, the Tuareg musical collective from northern Mali and one of the most recognisable names in world music, returns to Bulgaria on May 15, 2026. The show takes place in Hall 3 of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, as part of the current worldwide tour The Hoggar Tour - named after the mountain range in central Sahara.

The band was formed in the late 70s by Ibrahim ag Alhabib and other Tuareg musicians living in refugee camps in Algeria and Libya. What they built - a fusion of traditional Tuareg melodies with electric guitars and blues structure - is now known as desert blues and has become one of the most recognisable genres Africa has exported into the 21st century. In 2012 they won the Grammy for best world music album for Tassili.

Tinariwen's concerts are famous for the fact that members often perform in traditional Tuareg dress and tagelmust, the white or blue cloths that cover the face. The music is simple, cyclical and hypnotic, but emotionally heavily loaded. Hall 3 of NDK with capacity for around 700 offers the intimate atmosphere that suits the band's acoustic style.

Tickets are available via ticketstation.bg. Doors open in the evening on May 15, 2026. NDK sits in the centre of Sofia, right by Vitosha Boulevard, and is easy to reach by public transport. For Macedonian fans of world music, this is a solid chance to see a band that doesn't visit Skopje or Bitola.
