On October 10 the Velvet Club in Malta operates in Macedonian. Toni Zen plays live, while DJ Pimp, DJ K105 and Funky Monkey take turns behind the decks. Entry costs 20 euros, or 1,240 denars, and is sold through karti.com.mk - a Macedonian ticket platform, for a night taking place fifteen hundred kilometres from Skopje.

The organiser is 389 Society, and that number tells the whole story: 389 is Macedonia's international dialling code. The event is built as a night for the Macedonian community in Malta, an island that over the past decade has become one of the bigger work destinations for people leaving the Balkans - gaming industry, tourism, services. Enough people to fill a club.

Toni Zen performs live, which sets it apart from the standard format of these nights abroad, where usually there is just a DJ with a playlist. The programme starts at 21:00 and runs until the end of the night, with three DJs rotating around the set.

The more interesting part is not the night itself but the infrastructure behind it. A Macedonian ticket seller handles entry to a club in Malta, a Macedonian production company runs the event, the crowd is Macedonian - the whole chain works outside the country and none of it is improvised.
