Vardar in Płock: most goals scored in the group, not a single point

RK Vardar play away at Wisła Płock tonight from 20:45 in the fourth round of the Champions League, still without a point after three matches. The paradox is in the numbers: Vardar have scored 89 goals, the most in Group B, but conceded 98. A week ago in Skopje the Poles won 32:26, despite 14 goals from Mateo Faduj, and Dane Frederik Bjerre was Wisła's top scorer with 10. Coach Ivan Čupić makes no secret of who the favourite is: "Wisła were the favourites in Skopje, and they'll be even bigger favourites when we play on their court." The goal, he says, is for the team to be competitive and get its first points. If Płock win tonight too, Vardar risk losing their place in the race for the main round - and the club that has won Europe twice is now counting whether it will have anything left to play for at all.

Pelister find no answer to Gummersbach

Eurofarm Pelister suffered their second defeat in Group G of the EHF European League - 38:28 away at Gummersbach. The Bitola side started on equal terms, but the Germans took the lead as early as the eighth minute and went into half-time 20:15 up. In the second half Lino Červar's team couldn't find a way through the German defence, and Pelister's most effective player was captain Filip Kuzmanovski. After three rounds Pelister are bottom of the group with one point. Two places lead to the next stage, and for those the Bitola side must collect points at home - starting with the return match against Gummersbach.

Croatian night in the European League: Nexe and Sesvete topple the unbeaten

Nexe from Našice turned Group A upside down with an away win at Elverum, even though the Norwegians' winger Kevin Gulliksen scored 15 goals. The key moment was a steal and counter-attack by Aleksandar Bakić for 21:20 right after the break, and Tin Lučin sealed the win from seven metres in the final minutes. Zagreb's Sesvete, meanwhile, beat previously unbeaten Bergischer 37:31, the Croats' first European win this season. The Croatian clubs showed how to win away and how to host a stronger side - something the Macedonian clubs didn't manage this week.

Celje and Zagreb face return matches that could shut the door on them

Slovenian record champions Celje host PSG tonight, the team that put 46:35 past them in Paris a week ago - a new record for goals scored by the French in 16 seasons in the Champions League. Celje are bottom of Group C, and with another defeat they'll continue their season in the European League. Their consolation is called Aljuš Anžič: the young talent has 23 goals and is fourth on the scorers' list. Zagreb, for their part, travel to unbeaten Aalborg, who beat them 33:23 in Zagreb a week ago despite 10 goals from Filip Glavaš. Both clubs win convincingly at home, but at the door of the main round, the regional champions look like guests for now.

Partizan pointless before the return match in Veszprém

Serbian champions Partizan head to Veszprém bottom of Group A, still without a point. A week ago in Belgrade the Hungarian giants won 37:26, with 24 saves from goalkeeper Emil Nielsen. Veszprém, with a maximum six points, could already secure a place in the main round in the fourth round. Partizan's top scorer, Uladzislau Kulesh, has 17 goals, but he'll hardly bridge the gap in quality on his own. At home Partizan grind opponents down - 40:22 against Lavovi last weekend - but in Europe the numbers are completely different.
