VLEN Becomes VREDI on May 9: Medjiti and Kasami Co-Chairs, Aliu Optimistic on EU

The VLEN coalition will become a single political party on May 9 - Europe Day: VREDI. With two co-chairs - Afrim Medjiti and Bilal Kasami, two vice-chairs, and a secretary. The structure looks more like a complex power-sharing deal than party democracy.

Health Minister Azir Aliu explained why they chose Europe Day: No party can claim to be anti-European given that all domestic legislation must align with EU standards. The message is clear for both domestic and international audiences.

Asked whether the Bulgarian elections and Radev's victory would complicate the European path, Aliu expressed optimism: two ministers work daily on EU integration processes, with weekly progress reports. We are on a good path and I am very optimistic that we will see the first results soon, said Aliu.

Optimism is easy when you're in power. The harder question is whether a party with two co-chairs can actually make decisions faster than a coalition. Or whether the formalism is just cosmetics for the same old dynamic of balancing interests?
