Aleksandar Vucic gave an interview to Alastair Campbell - the man who invented modern political spin, former communications director for Tony Blair, and one of the architects of Britain's narrative machine during the Kosovo crisis.
Campbell announced the podcast "The Rest Is Politics" on X (Twitter) with the words: "Fascinating episode with Serbian President Vucic. We were once on opposite sides during the Kosovo war, which led to pleasant disagreements today."
"Pleasant disagreements" - that is British for "we argued but politely." The man who helped sell the bombing of Serbia in 1999 now sits with the man who was on the other side back then. How much have the roles changed, and how much just the rhetoric?
Campbell praised Vucic's "generosity" with his time and views. The episode will be published on Monday. What exactly Vucic said - we will see. But the very fact that he sits at a table with Blair's "spin doctor" says more than any interview.
