Wolves from the zoo, a note on the PM, silence from the palace

The same sentence repeated three times this week, on three different occasions. When wolves escaped Skopje's zoo and killed kangaroos, the response was not an explanation but silence. When a diplomatic note with the prime minister's family data ended up online, again there was no one to say how it happened. And when the Norwegian princess's son got four years in prison, the palace stayed loudly silent. Silence is not a void - it is a decision. When an institution gets caught, the first thing it does is not answer, but pause.

We're the cheapest - for the guest, not the paycheck

Every number this week promised well, until you set it next to the local wage. Macedonia is the cheapest destination for Germans - what is a bargain for the foreigner is a luxury for the local. Skopje has the lowest rent among capital cities, but the figure lies on its own without the salary beside it. And the governor warns that 80% of the second pension pillar won't even reach a minimum pension. Every "cheap" boast depends on who pays and with whose money. Add that in, and the record becomes a bill.

Money for tanks, a loan for wages

In the very week that the budget grows faster than the economy and the state borrows again, it also announced 3.5% of GDP for defense. When a society is struggling with wages, every denar for tanks is a denar less for a hospital. Meanwhile, the citizen pays a fee just to check their own money at the bank. The money exists. The question is never whether it exists, but who it's meant for - and the answer is rarely us.

The war changed address, not logic

The front as a line on a map is slowly vanishing. This week the war was fought on bridges that turn from a symbol of power into a trap, with drones setting Russian refineries ablaze and forcing regions to ration fuel. The truce lasted ten days before the US struck Iran again. And somewhere on the Black Sea, a flag planted by drone is sold as conquered territory. The battlefield moved into logistics and into the image for the camera. The address is new, the logic is old.

Same summer, same script

Every summer catches us as if it were the first. Ten fires in one day, the same schedule as last year. An average storm tore up the streets of Bitola - when asphalt collapses under ordinary rain, the problem isn't the rain. And the REK Bitola plant alone pollutes more than four countries combined, with no penalty. What we call bad weather is really neglect that the first hard day simply exposes.
