Hungarian model Barbara Palvin and actor Dylan Sprouse have become parents to a baby girl. The news didn't come through a press release or a magazine cover, but through a single photo on social media: the three of them, dressed in Los Angeles Dodgers jerseys, sitting in front of a TV showing a baseball game.

The caption is a joke that barely needs explaining. "We took Labor Day literally this year," Palvin wrote. In the US, Labor Day falls on the first Monday in September, which this year was September 7 - meaning the baby was born about three weeks ago. For English speakers the pun lands on its own: labour is labour, whatever the calendar says.

They announced the pregnancy in May at the Cannes Film Festival, where Palvin appeared in a sky-blue gown with a square neckline and a long skirt finished with feathers. In July, on the "Wildmen" podcast, they revealed they were expecting a girl.

Sprouse made no secret of his excitement back then. "We're having a girl, and it makes me immeasurably happy," he said, adding that he couldn't wait for "endless afternoons of play" and that he loves tea parties, "with zero irony". Palvin, for her part, predicted that their daughter would calm her husband down.

In the months before the birth, the couple called the baby "principessa" - Italian for princess. They had earlier shared an ultrasound image in which, according to the parents, the baby is holding its hand in the rock-and-roll sign, index and little finger raised. Proof, they say, that their daughter already shares their passion for music.

In a world where the first photos of celebrity babies are often saved for exclusives, a family that shares the biggest news of its life from the couch, with baseball on in the background, seems almost rebellious. How long that privacy will last is another question.
