City guilty, and rivals want a longer exile

An independent commission has found Manchester City guilty of breaching financial rules in the seasons from 2009/10 to 2017/18. The sanction will be set at a separate hearing, but several Premier League clubs are already saying one season in the Championship would be too little and want a longer removal from the top flight. City are planning an appeal, and chief executive Ferran Soriano says the club will "fight aggressively" to clear its name. Under the new rules the appeal must be completed within 12 weeks, but City can argue the rules do not apply to past breaches. At stake are 22 major trophies since 2008, eight Premier League titles and one Champions League - the question now is how much of that was won under the rules that applied to everyone else.

Macedonia: 607 minutes without a goal, and the coach asks for patience

The new Nations League campaign has started with two defeats: after 0:3 against Switzerland, the "red and yellows" also lost 0:2 in Slovenia at Stožice. Coach Goce Sedloski made eight changes to the starting line-up, and the experiment produced nothing. The numbers are brutal: ten games without a win, 607 minutes without scoring, and in six games under Sedloski - four defeats, two draws and zero goals. He says the rejuvenation process goes on and he is not giving up, while fans on social media are calling for him and the Football Federation leadership to resign. Even Slovenia's coach Boštjan Cesar gave us the diagnosis: Macedonia has quality players, but "does not belong at the very top". On Saturday at 20:45 Scotland come to the Toše Proeski Arena - how many goalless minutes does it take before someone at the federation reacts?

Ronaldo leaves the camp, saves "the truth" for later

Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal's camp after tensions with new coach Jorge Jesus. The 41-year-old Al-Nassr striker stayed on the bench in the Nations League game against Norway, which Portugal won 2:1 with goals from João Félix and Gonçalo Ramos. After the final whistle he went straight to the dressing room without acknowledging the fans who had travelled with the team. Jesus says he told him back on Tuesday: "If I need you for 30 minutes, you'll play, if not - you won't play." Ronaldo responded with a message saying that at the right time he will tell the Portuguese the truth about why he left. Behind him are 146 goals in 234 appearances for the national team and 979 career goals, and he makes no secret of the target - 1,000. The end of a national team era, or just the loudest sulk in European football this autumn?

Olise: Bayern offer him a deal until 2032

Bayern Munich are preparing an offer to extend Michael Olise's contract to 2032, to keep Liverpool and Real Madrid at bay. The Frenchman has become indispensable under Vincent Kompany: last season he had 22 goals and 31 assists in 57 games, and he started this one with 8 goals and 4 assists in seven matches. During the international break he came off the bench for France and scored the only goal in the 88th minute for a 1:0 win over Belgium. His current contract runs until June 2029, and Bayern have already said that even an offer of over 200 million euros would not necessarily persuade them to sell. A statement like that is a message to the competition - and also a price tag in the shop window.

Skopje change coach, debut is against Vardar

FK Skopje are the only team without a win after eight rounds of the First League, bottom of the table with three points from three draws. So the club has changed coach: replacing Muarem Muarem on the bench is young Shtip native Ivan Varadinovski, who was at Kozhuv last year and previously worked at Novaci and Detonit. His assistants are Ivan Nastevski and Jasmin Mecinović, and the club stresses that Varadinovski and Nastevski both once wore the Skopje shirt. The sentiment is nice, but the table doesn't read CVs. The first test is the hardest possible - champions Vardar, straight after the international break.
