The world is waiting for a decision. Donald Trump has not yet answered the question that is rattling global economies - will the US go back to war with Iran. The peace talks have collapsed. Iran has announced it may enrich uranium up to 90 percent - weapons grade.

The statement came from a member of the Iranian parliamentary security committee. „One of Iran's options in case of a new attack could be 90 percent enrichment." That is a line you do not cross with a compromise - once you reach 90 percent enriched uranium, the difference between „energy" and „bomb" disappears.

Trump, according to CNN, is losing patience with Iranian negotiating tactics. The talks are broken off, a return to the military path looks more likely than it did a week ago. An Iranian adviser warned that if anything happens, Trump „will not be able to walk triumphantly into Beijing" - an allusion to his upcoming visit.

The closed Strait of Hormuz has knocked over global oil supplies. 10 to 12 million barrels a day are blocked, even with alternative routes. Oil prices are up about 45 percent since the start of the conflict. The US is releasing 53.3 million barrels from strategic reserves to try to stabilise the market.

A humanitarian catastrophe is brewing in the background. The UN warns - blocked fertiliser routes could lead to mass hunger for around 45 million people in countries that depend on them. The Turkish foreign minister is in Qatar negotiating over the safety of the strait.

The US has also brought in new sanctions, this time against entities facilitating Iranian oil exports to China. And in the background, according to Gulf reports, the UAE has been running covert military operations against Iranian targets.

For the Balkans this is direct news. Diesel prices, medicine prices, basic food prices - all of it runs through the global export routes. If Trump tightens the squeeze once more, it will not just be Tehran paying. We will all be standing in line.
