Sashko Nikolovski has played in the orchestra of the National Opera and Ballet since 1986. On 28 October at 8 p.m. he steps out again on the stage of the house where he has worked for four decades, but this time not from the orchestra pit: the National Jazz Orchestra is dedicating a jubilee concert to his 40-year artistic career, under the baton of Dzhijan Emin.

Nikolovski is a trombonist, arranger and composer, and his name stands behind a large part of the domestic scene. He has played in the Trombone Quartet, with which he performed in Split, Omiš, Makarska and Hvar, in the orchestra of Macedonian Radio Television, in Toše Proeski's band, in the Goce Stevkovski Septet and in the National Jazz Orchestra itself. His first album of original work, "Not for Sale", brings together eight compositions inspired by classic and modern jazz, featuring some of the best-known names of the Macedonian jazz scene. The album was also reviewed by the American portal All About Jazz.

The programme will include his original compositions and arrangements, as well as works by authors he has collaborated with over the years: Trajche Velkov, Zoran Kostadinovski, Gordan Spasovski, Dzhijan Emin and Ivan Petrovski. Announced as special guests are Sasho Gigov-Gish, Darko Muchev - Mucho, Stefche Stojkovski and Teodor Stojkovski - Katin. It's rare for a jubilee to belong to a musician who has spent decades holding up the sound behind other people's names on the poster. How many people like that do we even know by name?

The concert is at the National Opera and Ballet in Skopje, starting at 8 p.m. Tickets cost 1,000 denars and are on sale via mktickets.mk.
