On October 6 at 21:00, Public Room in Skopje opens its stage for the launch of "Ater", the new project of drummer Mihail Parušev. Performing is Parussion Group, whose name is a pun on the leader's surname and percussion - so the name alone tells you which instrument stands at the centre.
The line-up is a quintet: Aleksandar Boškov on guitar, Ivan Ivanov on flute and saxophone, Jovan Cvetković on piano, Ivan Bejkov on bass and Parušev on drums. Parušev is not a new name for audiences who follow the jazz scene - he appears among the performers at the International Jazz Day celebration in Bitola in 2017.
The organisers have published neither a setlist nor a genre label, but the line-up says enough. Flute and saxophone instead of a second guitar, piano instead of a synth - an instrumentation that recalls a jazz club more than a rock gig. How often on the local scene is the drummer the one who signs the project, instead of sitting behind someone else?
A ticket costs 500 denars and is available through tix.mk. Public Room is on 50-ta Divizija street in central Skopje, and the show starts at 21:00.
