It has been exactly one month with no trace of Ljupcho. His family addressed the public again today - not to appeal to citizens to keep an eye out, but to ask something that ought to have an obvious answer: who is actively running the search?
His grandson Darko says the family has spent the whole month living in uncertainty, fear and hope, while in the meantime doing nothing but gathering information and trying to reconstruct the missing man's last movements.
"We search ourselves, we gather the information ourselves, we try to piece together on our own where and how he moved in his last days. And here I have to ask publicly: what is happening with the search?", Darko wrote.
Reported missing, but not on the list
The hardest sentence in the appeal is the one about the institutions. "I, as a family member, have to this day received no concrete information from any institution about what has been undertaken and what has been checked. Ljupcho was reported missing, and yet we do not even see him on the official Interior Ministry page among missing persons", he says.
That is a claim with a simple check and an even simpler fix. Publishing a missing person on the official page requires no budget, no tender and no council session. It requires someone to enter the report into the system. If that has not been done in a month, the question is not about capacity - the question is about procedure.
The cameras that record everything
The family is also asking whether the search is using footage from cameras across Skopje and the capabilities of the "Safe City" system, because, as Darko says, there is information about part of Ljupcho's last movements.
That question comes in a week when the state was boasting that the same system registered 151 traffic offences in a day and a half in Povardarie. The system works. It watches. It records. The family's question is whether that footage was reviewed for a man who disappeared a month ago.
"Should the family be the ones discovering where the missing man went? Should we be the ones tracking down the cameras, the witnesses and his last traces ourselves?", the grandson asks.
The family is at the same time calling on people in Skopje and the surrounding area to come forward if they have seen Ljupcho or have any information at all. Information can be reported on 112 for emergencies or to the police on 192.
"Ljupcho is not just a case number. Ljupcho is somebody's brother, uncle, father, husband and a man with a family that waits every day for him to come home", the appeal reads.
The institutions do not owe a result - a search can be genuinely difficult through nobody's fault. They owe information. A month without a single answer to the family is not a sign that there is nothing to say, but that nobody bothered to say it.
