German techno producer Chris Liebing plays Zagreb's Bugalu club on October 16, put on by Future Scope. The night starts at 11pm and runs until seven in the morning - eight hours of programme, not a courtesy club slot.

Christopher Liebing was born in 1968 and has been one of the central figures of the Frankfurt electronic scene since the early nineties. He took his first residency in 1991 at the Red Brick club in Giessen, opened the techno club Spinclub in 1994, and founded his first label, Audio, in 1996. Three years later came CLR, which grew into one of the most respected purist techno labels around.

What makes Liebing more interesting than the run of techno DJs is that he changed his sound instead of preserving it. The 2018 album "Burn Slow", made with co-producer Ralf Hildenbeutel for Mute, is slow and atmospheric, with vocal contributions from Gary Numan, Polly Scattergood and Cold Cave. That is an unexpected move from a man whose name is a synonym for fast and hard techno, and in 2021 "Another Day" followed the same logic.

Bugalu is a limited-capacity club space, which for a DJ of this calibre means far closer contact with the crowd than any festival allows. Tickets via entrio.hr go up to 20 euros, or roughly 1,232 denars for the top category.
