Salami With Cheaper Meat, a Diplomatic Note Online, Wolves Out of the Zoo, Fire at Čegrane

Salami that lies, inspection that comes late

The day opened by confirming something many had long suspected at the counter: the food agency found serious irregularities in meat products - sold as one thing, made of a lower-grade meat inside. The picture is worse than the one with dairy. The question is not whether someone slipped up, but why the check arrives only after the product has sat on the shelf for months.

A document on the premier's family, posted to Facebook

The same negligence, only higher up: a diplomatic note with sensitive data on the prime minister's family ended up online. VMRO-DPMNE attacks the opposition for staying silent, Sofia denies it, but the real scandal is not who is silent - it is how such a document was made public at all. When the institution meant to guard secrets spills them, the political bickering is just noise laid over the failure.

Wolves outside the zoo, fire at Čegrane

Safety as a non-existent category repeated itself twice in one day. White wolves dug a hole, escaped Skopje's zoo and killed four kangaroos and emus, and the zoo stays silent instead of saying who guarantees the next escapee won't meet a visitor. At the same time, the fire at Čegrane is still burning and summer has caught us unprepared again - with dry brush no one cleared in time.

Cocaine, a passport, and one question with no answer

On foreign ground, but with a domestic trail: in a major operation in Albania, a smuggler was caught with eight tonnes of cocaine, travelling on a stolen Macedonian passport from the Doppelgänger affair. The drugs are an Albanian story, but the document is ours - and the question of who issued it stays open.

Politics and local problems that won't wait

In politics, Mickoski repeated that there is no change to the EU negotiating framework without consensus, the same word that has dressed up the blockade with Sofia for years. On the other side, Filipče presented a new platform of familiar promises - fair taxation, vetting, chances for the young - on priorities his party left unsolved while in power. While the parties spin in circles, residents in part of Karpoš went 20 hours without water, and Tetovo's pool introduced women-only sessions - a debate about public space that rarely passes quietly here.

The world: an earthquake in Venezuela, a front going rigid

Beyond the borders, the weight fell on Venezuela: the strongest earthquake in over a century left more than 50,000 missing, with rescuers digging by phone light as the golden window for survivors closes. To the east, seven states on NATO's eastern edge are arming for escalation because they no longer count on Washington's steadiness, while the war in Ukraine is fought more in headlines than on the ground.

The lighter part: our summer of sport

To close, something that asks for no culprit. After four years, Vardar is back in the Champions League, and Manaskov's goal was named the season's best - our handball is lifting its head. New York took the NBA ring, while our basketball players took a lesson from Bulgaria. A day that demanded answers in so many places at least allowed one smile at the end.

The thread of the day: wherever an institution is meant to answer - for the salami, the document, the fire, the fence - what we mostly find is silence. The lighter part of the day, sport, is the only place where no one runs from a question.
