The "12:05" platform demands Filipče's resignation, SDSM calls it "ZNAM 2.0"

The platform "Conversations about the Future at 12:05" has delivered its proposals for changes in SDSM to the party archive at its Bihaćka street headquarters. The document was handed in by Igor Ivanovski, Slavjanka Petrovska and Kosta Načevski. The demands, according to the content that leaked to the public: the resignation of party president Venko Filipče, a new congress, a new leadership and a new identity for the party.

"We answer hysteria with proposals, inertia with concrete action, and a lack of ideas with a precise plan," the Platform wrote, asking for the party to be returned to its membership "within a reasonable time".

The leadership's response came fast and with the gloves off. SDSM branded the Platform "ZNAM 2.0" - a project to split the opposition, modelled on the ZNAM party. The document was marked confidential, but, they say, its contents immediately appeared in media close to the government. According to the leadership, it contains no anti-corruption measures, no deadlines for EU integration and no support for the European Public Prosecutor's Office - just a resignation, a congress and a new logo.

"The party is not for sale and SDSM does not surrender in advance. For us, SDSM is not worth 1.6 million euros," the party said. Their main argument is arithmetic: 17 signatories against more than 18,000 members who voted for Filipče.

The sniping didn't stop at letters. Filipče publicly called out Slavjanka Petrovska, one of the signatories, accusing her of a disputed tank procurement worth around 37 million euros. The ruling VMRO-DPMNE immediately challenged him to take any evidence he has to the prosecutor.

And that is the biggest problem in this whole story. If the tank accusation holds up, why is it only coming out now, in a party squabble, and not earlier, in front of a prosecutor? If it doesn't, why throw it around? The largest opposition party is supposed to hold the government to account. Instead, it is handing it material - and the government can just watch SDSM count its own signatories.
