Toni Zen performs at Velvet Club in Malta on October 10, at a night built around Macedonian music on an island where thousands of our people live and work. The event runs under the 389 Society banner, and tickets are sold through a Skopje portal - so anyone planning to travel can pick them up from home.

Toni Zen, real name Toni Petkovski, was born in Skopje in 1983 and has been active on the Macedonian hip-hop scene since 2002. He was previously part of the group Urbana Dimenzija, and for over two decades he has also worked as a producer, which is a rare combination here: most rappers either write or produce, and few hold on to both for that long. This year he released the video for "Vremeto", which means he is arriving with fresh material rather than just a back catalogue.

The format is a club night, running end to end with live music and DJs between the sets. DJ PIMP, DJ K105 and FUNKY MONKEY handle the sound, so the event is set up as a night rather than a concert with a fixed start and finish. Velvet Club is among the larger venues on the island, and October is the stretch when the Maltese season calms down and the bars belong to the regulars again.

Doors and music from 9pm on October 10. A ticket costs 20 euros, roughly 1,240 denars, through karti.com.mk. There are not many dates in the year for live Macedonian music on the Mediterranean, so for anyone who is there or travelling around then, this is one of the few.
