Grokipedia has been abandoned since April: six million texts nobody is checking any more

Grokipedia was announced as a more accurate alternative to Wikipedia. Today it is something else - a digital object that runs, gets visited, and isn't maintained. According to research by Lawfare, not a single article has been edited since 24 April this year.

The analysis covered over 34,000 pages with 225,496 proposed edits. The result: "not a single accepted or rejected correction in the last three months". This isn't a platform refusing fixes - it's a platform where nobody is looking to see whether any arrived. The recent changes section now shows no available updates, and the decision log for user submissions has stopped working.

Six million texts, zero readers on the other side

The project launched in October 2025 with around 885,000 articles. By November the second version had grown past six million texts. The number impresses right up until you ask who wrote them and who checked them. Wikipedia is slow precisely because it has people arguing over every sentence. That "slow" is its single quality.

The research turned up something worse than neglect. Grokipedia frequently drew on sources Wikipedia's editors consider unreliable - among them the neo-Nazi Stormfront and Infowars. So the platform built to correct an alleged bias leaned on the sources everyone else runs away from.

Millions of visits to an empty building

Despite the standstill, Grokipedia still pulls in millions of visitors a month. That's the part least commented on and most consequential: the content stays online, keeps being read, keeps being cited - and nobody stands behind it any more. A frozen encyclopedia isn't neutral. It's a snapshot of one day, stuck in place as if it were permanent truth.

The company did not respond to media questions about the project's status. Elon Musk last mentioned it publicly in February 2026. Since then - silence, while the pages keep opening.

The question isn't whether Musk will come back to the project. The question is how many people are today reading something that looks like an encyclopedia and is actually an abandoned warehouse.
