The Macedonian Philharmonic performs the programme "Musical Code" in its Concert Hall on October 8 at 20:00, a night made up entirely of overtures. Borjan Canev is on the podium.

The programme: the overture to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Don Giovanni", the overture to Gioachino Rossini's "The Barber of Seville", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Coriolan", Johannes Brahms's "Academic Festival Overture", the overture to Richard Wagner's "The Mastersingers of Nuremberg", the overture to Giuseppe Verdi's "The Force of Destiny" and Dmitri Shostakovich's "Festive Overture". The span runs from 1787 to 1954.

The overture is the shortest route into an opera - a few minutes in which the composer puts the main themes on the table. A night built only from such openings is a good way in for someone who has never sat through a whole opera, and a test for the orchestra, which has to change style seven times in one evening. Six days later, on October 14, Canev and the orchestra take a programme of overtures on tour to Bitola.

Tickets are bought via the "Buy ticket" button on filharmonija.mk, where the concert's digital programme is also published. Prices are not listed on the event page.
