The folk dance and song ensemble "Tanec" performs "The Eternal Echo of Nikola Badev" at the Macedonian National Theatre on October 16 at 19:30. The night is dedicated to one of the most recognisable performers of Macedonian folk song.
Badev is among the singers who shaped Macedonian folk song in the second half of the 20th century, in the same company as Vaska Ilieva, Aleksandar Sarievski and Koco Petrovski. His name is tied to "Mi zaplakalo seloto Vataša" ("The Village of Vataša Wept"), Lazar Mančevski-Pindžur's song about the massacre of twelve young men from Vataša in the Second World War. Badev recorded the first version in 1975, and the song is still regarded as the village's anthem.
"Tanec" was founded in 1949 with the task of collecting, preserving and presenting Macedonian folk songs, dances, instruments and costumes. It has more than 3,500 concerts and festivals around the world behind it, from the USA and Australia to Japan, and as early as 1950 it won first prize at the festival in Llangollen in the UK. The detailed programme for the night has not been published, but the title promises songs that generations know from the radio.
Tickets start at 600 denars and are on sale through kupikarta.com. The show starts at 19:30.
