Gazi Baba Announces Over 60 Summer Projects: New Streets, Kindergartens and Schools

A summer in the sign of construction machinery - or so the municipality of Gazi Baba promises, having announced an intensive period delivering more than 60 projects across nearly every populated area in its territory.

The projects are made possible by a budget rebalance that freed up extra funds - according to mayor Boban Stefkovski, the increase amounts to roughly 9 million euros, or 75 million denars earmarked for capital and development works. New streets, kindergartens and schools are all on the list.

Sixty projects in a single summer is an ambitious number. And it is precisely the ambition that is cause for caution - when a municipality announces this many works at once, the question is whether the capacity, the oversight and the money will stretch far enough for all of them to be finished properly, or whether some will be left half-done until the next election cycle.

For the residents of Gazi Baba, one of Skopje's larger and more diverse municipalities, the promises of new schools and kindergartens matter - these are things that directly shape daily life. But the number on its own means nothing. Sixty finished projects is a triumph; sixty announced, with half of them done, is just good pre-election arithmetic. The summer will show which of the two it is.
