Today: variable cloud, occasional rain and winds up to 60 kilometres an hour - the cool front arrives after a few stable days

The weather across Macedonia today will be variably cloudy, with occasional local showers. Temperatures range from -2 to 20 degrees depending on the location. The northerly wind will be moderate, with gusts up to 60 kilometres an hour. Anyone planning to be outdoors today is better off pushing those plans to tomorrow.

The cool spell arrives after a few relatively stable days. That is a typical spring pattern - when a weather system from the north brings short-lived rain and pressure shifts. For farmers, this is good news: the moisture will be welcome after several dry weeks. For mountain hikers it is less welcome, since the higher elevations already carry the chance of snow.

Tomorrow will look much the same. Variable cloud cover, sunny spells and possible rain. The wind stays noticeable. The weekend, on the whole, is not ideal for trips into the mountains - but for walks around town or short drives to nearby locations it is no obstacle.

For the coming days, meteorologists expect the weather to stabilise toward the middle of next week. Temperatures will return to the average May range, with a steady gap between day and night. The sun will be more present. Which means the summer - with all its heatwave warnings - is quietly on its way.
