NATO refuses to join the Hormuz blockade: America goes it alone, oil already past 100 dollars

Trump activated a naval blockade of Iran, and NATO said - no thanks. The alliance refused to participate. The EU does not understand what America is doing there. China is warning. And oil? Already past 102 dollars a barrel.

The blockade works like this - every ship entering or leaving Iranian ports has to pass under American control. Humanitarian aid, food and medicines will be permitted, but subject to inspection, Washington announced. Meaning: control over them, in international waters, without a UN mandate.

NATO said no

This is the key detail Washington had not planned for. NATO allies refused to join the blockade. British Prime Minister Starmer stated his government would not support the operation. The head of European diplomacy admitted it is not clear what America is doing. China called the blockade contrary to the interests of the international community.

Iran responds with threats

Iran's Revolutionary Guard threatened decisive action against any military vessel approaching the strait. Iran's parliamentary leadership sarcastically advised Americans to enjoy current gas prices - implying this is only the beginning.

The EU Commission is already recalculating: energy import costs have run to approximately 22 billion euros since the conflict began. Who pays that bill? The European taxpayer, of course.
