Prilep Rewards Its Best Students: Investing in Children Isn't a Cost, It's the Only Safe Investment

In the middle of news about arson, accidents and party quarrels, here comes one that deserves attention precisely because it's different. Prilep rewarded its most successful students - the ones who competed at national and international contests. The ceremony was held in the "Mogila" park, and mayor Ilija Prodanoski said the town knows how to value its best.

"Young people are the pride and future of Prilep" was the message from the event. And as much as it sounds like the usual political line, this time there's a concrete gesture behind it - a municipality that publicly highlights students instead of just promising them things. In a country where the brightest young people increasingly eye the exit, every recognition at home is worth more than it seems.

The question, of course, is whether this is the start of a policy or just a nice day for photos. Awards are welcome, but real investment in the young is measured in something harder - schools, opportunities, a reason to stay. One ceremony doesn't keep a generation home, but it sends a signal that someone is at least watching.

For Prilep, a town that like many others is battling emigration and ageing, moments like this matter. Not because they solve everything, but because they remind us of something simple - that investing in your own children isn't a cost, but the only safe investment a town can make.
