Skopje to Spray Against Mosquitoes by Air This Weekend: Beekeepers Should Take Precautions

If you live in Skopje, this weekend's early morning will come with the sound of an airplane. The City of Skopje announced that on June 27 and 28 (Saturday and Sunday), in the early morning hours when there's the least movement of people, it will carry out aerial pest control against adult forms of mosquitoes across the city's territory.

If weather conditions don't allow it, the spraying will be postponed to the next suitable day at the same time. The City is appealing to beekeepers in particular to take protective measures for their hives, because of the specific substances used in this kind of treatment from the air.

Treating against mosquitoes in summer is a routine but necessary measure - especially with growing concerns about the diseases mosquitoes carry. Still, it's worth remembering the simple message to beekeepers: whatever kills mosquitoes doesn't tell a pest apart from a useful insect. That's why the warning isn't a formality, but real protection for those whose bees feed out in the open.
