Three addresses, a digital scale, 58 bags of white powder and a „Glock“ ready to fire - the Interior Ministry announced the Skopje arrest in the tone of an invoice, with photos and precise figures. Three people detained, but once again only the small-time dealers went down. Whoever runs the network above them stays a name the statement never says out loud. That same night in Tetovo, eleven shell casings turned up outside a company, and the police again promised „intensive measures“ - the phrase we know by heart after every unsolved shooting.

One EU report, two opposite truths

The European Commission warns of pressure on the judiciary and a collapse of trust, while the prime minister declared the very same report the best yet. Only 21 percent of citizens trust the independence of the courts - four out of five do not. That is not Brussels' position, it is the people's own, and no report can spin it into good news.

Ohrid under a UNESCO alarm again

A microbiologist wants an epidemic declared, the minister waits, and the source in Vrutok is under police guard. Help arrived fast: Skopje sent water tankers, bottle stations sprang up. But a tanker is a patch, not a fix - and nobody is yet answering for how clean water became a luxury.

When a clip has to go viral before anyone reacts

In Skopje's „Mičurin“ neighbourhood, children are touching an open electrical box with a broken door, right in the middle of a playground. The fix is a padlock and ten minutes of work - but the footage had to go viral before anyone remembered. At the entrance to the city, meanwhile, the „Welcome to Skopje“ billboard shows a horse with five legs and a Belgrade church instead of a Skopje one - an AI hallucination the mayor proudly unveiled and the internet promptly mocked. The question isn't the design, it's who commissioned it and how much they were paid.

Numbers that say it all

A Macedonian works 31.8 years in a lifetime, a Dutch person 44 - the shortest working life in the region and a quiet hole in the pension fund. The stock market isn't helping: the MBI10 dropped almost ten percent over the half-year. Over Kyiv, 40 missiles in 53 minutes - one of the heaviest bombardments yet, and Europe rehearsing its sharpest condemnations again. In Hungary, Orban replaced the last man standing in his way and erased his own veto - a move that needs little explaining around here.

Tonight Spain and Argentina play for the World Cup crown, after England beat France 6:4 and Mbappé became the top scorer in World Cup history. There's a Skopje stamp on it, too: Argentina's coach Scaloni once played in Skopje and had Pandev's back. A small detail, but it's exactly details like this that make the sport ours - no matter how far away the final is played.

If the day has one common thread, it runs through the harder part: the institutions wake up after the damage is already here - after the water is fouled, after the clip goes viral, after the network has been running for months. The small ones fall, the big ones stay untouched, and the citizen pays with patience, with health and with trust. Tonight's sport is a break from that - and it's good that it exists.
