On April 28, UKIM is picking a new rector. Two candidates are in the race: Biljana Angelova, the current rector and a professor at the Economics Institute, and Darko Danev, a full professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The vote is secret, results expected by evening.

Angelova represents continuity - her priorities are digitalization of student services and the university's international academic visibility. Danev offers change, with the accent on modernization, improving teaching quality, and strengthening ties with industry.

The winner will run UKIM from September 16, 2026 to September 15, 2029. Tens of thousands of students attend UKIM - and the follow-up question that candidates rarely answer concretely: how many graduates actually get a job in the field they studied.
