China Built a Replica of a US Warship in the Middle of the Desert: An Analyst Says They're Preparing for War

In the middle of the Xinjiang desert, more than 1,600 kilometers from the nearest sea, satellite images have revealed something bizarre - a full-size replica of a US warship, built in the middle of the sand where there's no water in sight. The message analysts read is unambiguous: China is preparing for war.

The replica is about 155 meters long and faithfully imitates the American „Arleigh Burke“-class destroyer, resembling the USS „Fitzgerald“. It has everything - a helicopter landing deck at the stern, vertical missile cells for projectiles like the „Tomahawk“, a command bridge, a gun at the bow. It's not a hasty mock-up; it's a precise construction.

The goal, analysts say, is to practice attacks on US ships. The structure is covered with antennas that simulate the radar image of a real warship, so the Chinese military can practice detection and targeting. „They are trying to combine different methods of attack and to strengthen their capabilities for controlling the area“, explains an expert from a Taiwanese defense institute.

This isn't the first such facility - previously China also had two-dimensional mock-ups of American carriers and destroyers, mounted on rails to simulate ship movement. But this is the first complete three-dimensional replica. Under Xi Jinping's leadership, Beijing has invested billions in modernizing the military.

„The message they're sending is that China is always preparing for war“, says the analyst. And that's the point worth pondering - while the world looks toward the Middle East and Ukraine, the biggest geopolitical tension may be quietly building in a desert no one is talking about. In the Balkans, we know well that real conflicts rarely start where everyone is looking.
