Israel Talking Ceasefire in Lebanon: White House Optimistic, Analysts Skeptical

Israel's cabinet met to discuss a potential ceasefire in Lebanon - after six weeks of conflict with Hezbollah. The White House is optimistic: 'We feel good about deal prospects,' spokesperson Karalyn Levitt said.

Halting fighting in Lebanon had been a sticking point in previous US-Iran peace talks. Now, with Pakistan's General Munir as mediator and Iran's Foreign Minister Araghchi posting on X about 'promoting peace and stability,' things look better. At least on paper.

Trump announced talks between leaders and suggested a ceasefire announcement could come soon. The two-week ceasefire deal from April 8 could be extended. Markets responded with records, oil stabilized.

But a Fujitomi Securities analyst warns: 'Investors remain doubtful, given the history of failed talks.' In the Middle East, the word 'soon' means everything and nothing. How many ceasefires promised, how many broken?
