Every evening, children on the playground in the Skopje neighbourhood of Mičurin play a game that could end in tragedy - they switch the light on and off through an open electrical box with a broken door. The video circulating online isn't amusing, it's terrifying: minors touch a power supply with bare hands, one that is barely fenced off. And while residents raise the alarm, the responsible services are nowhere to be found.
The footage, posted in the Aerodrom problem-reporting group, shows an electrical box that supplies power for the playground lighting. Although it's formally fenced in, the door is broken, so the children freely reach in and switch the power on and off. „Every evening the kids 'switch the light on and off' at the Mičurin playground. Sort out the electricity before it's too late,” the post reads.
„Before it's too late” - that's the whole point. This isn't an abstract danger, but a specific spot, a specific box and specific children risking an electric shock every evening. One damaged cable, one damp night, one wrong touch - and the news will be an entirely different one.
Outraged residents are asking the questions the institutions should be asking themselves. Where are the responsible services meant to secure the box? Why does a broken door on an electrical cabinet in the middle of a playground stand untouched long enough to become a daily habit for the children?
The fix is neither expensive nor complicated - a padlock, a repaired door, ten minutes of work by the responsible service. The question is why something so simple needs a video to rack up thousands of views before anyone reacts at all. Children's safety must not depend on whether a clip goes viral. This time there was luck. There must be no waiting for the next time.
