The National Opera and Ballet performs Giuseppe Verdi's "Nabucco" on October 30 at 20:00. Myron Michailidis from Greece conducts, and the production is directed by Italian Renato Bonajuto.

Marjan Jovanoski sings the title role, with Zlata Toševska Dimovska as Abigaille, Nikolina Janevska as Fenena, Gjorgji Cuckovski as Ismaele and Aleksandar Stefanovski as the high priest Zaccaria. Sets are by Flavio Arbetti, costumes by Artemio Cabassi and choreography by Maja Mitrevska Bogojevska. On stage are the house chorus and orchestra, the women's ballet ensemble and pupils from the ballet department of the "Ilija Nikolovski - Luj" school.

"Nabucco" premiered at Milan's La Scala in 1842 and is the opera that made Verdi famous. The chorus of the Hebrew slaves, "Va, pensiero", became a symbol of Italian unification and remains one of the most recognisable choral moments in the operatic repertoire. A people in exile singing about a lost homeland - in the Balkans, that image needs no translation.

A ticket costs 800 denars. Sales are at the opera box office, with phone numbers published on operabalet.mk.
