The war that for years was fought mainly on Ukrainian soil reached the heart of Russia once again this night. Over 400 Ukrainian drones flew toward Moscow and the Moscow region, striking facilities, injuring civilians and triggering mass evacuations from logistics centres.

Moscow's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, announced that the attack lasted from 8:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. According to him, the bulk of the drones were intercepted on the distant approaches to the city, while 85 were destroyed as they closed in on Moscow. „From 8:30 p.m. until 5 a.m., over 400 hostile drones flew toward Moscow. Air defence neutralised most of them on the distant approaches. 85 drones were destroyed near Moscow," he said.

Six people with blast injuries of varying severity were admitted to the hospital in Domodedovo. The damage was documented in the Novo Domodedovo settlement, while a large logistics centre in Podolsk sustained damage. Workers were evacuated en masse as explosions echoed nearby. Air traffic was temporarily disrupted, with restrictions at the Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports.

Among those hit is a large central logistics facility of the „Wildberries" company in Koledino in the Moscow region. Footage showed employees being evacuated from the warehouse complex, with smoke rising over the impact zone. This attack comes just two days after drones struck „Wildberries" centres in Elektrostal and Kotovsk, sparking fires and disrupting deliveries.

The figure of over 400 drones makes this attack one of the largest attempts to strike the Russian capital and its surroundings since the start of the conflict. It is also symbolic: logistics, warehouses, supply chains - the targets are no longer just military bases, but the very engine of the everyday economy.

A war that began with front lines and trenches is increasingly being waged with unmanned aircraft that fly hundreds of kilometres and strike where it once looked safe. When drones can reach a warehouse near Moscow, no line on the map is a secure border anymore. And that is a lesson that applies not only to Russia and Ukraine - it is the new face of war, and it is worth remembering well.
