At least one person was killed in an explosion late last night in the Croatian coastal city of Split. The blast occurred at 10:40 PM in the Ravna Niva neighborhood - in a garage, according to Croatian media.

Police immediately cordoned off the wider area. The victim's identity is currently unknown, and Croatia's national broadcaster HRT and regional outlet N1 report that the investigation is ongoing.

According to the police statement, initial indications suggest this is an accident, not a criminal act. But details are scarce, and investigators have yet to determine what exactly caused an explosion in a garage powerful enough to take a human life.
