Israeli Soldier Smashes Jesus Statue With Hammer in Lebanon: IDF Confirms, Investigation Opened

A photo that circled the globe: an Israeli soldier in full uniform using a hammer to destroy a statue of Jesus Christ in a Maronite Christian village in southern Lebanon. Not a montage. Not propaganda. The IDF confirmed the photograph is authentic.

The incident occurred in Debel, a village near Ain Ebel - a Maronite Christian settlement in southern Lebanon. The soldier methodically strikes the statue with a hammer, in broad daylight, apparently aware he's being photographed.

The IDF responded with a statement: "This incident is extremely serious and completely contradicts expected military values." The Northern Command opened an investigation, and the army promised to assist with the statue's restoration. The classic pattern: soldier destroys, army apologizes, investigation disappears into bureaucracy.

Wadie Abunassar, coordinator of the Christian Forum in the Holy Land, was direct: "It is impossible to remain silent before such violations." He demanded verification and criminal prosecution.

Israel spends billions annually on image and diplomacy. One soldier with a hammer can do more damage than an entire anti-Israel campaign. When an army that presents itself as "the most moral in the world" can't control its own soldier - how much is that title worth?
