Two police officers in Kyiv fled the scene of a massacre and left civilians alone with an armed attacker. The video was published. The police chief resigned. Six people are dead, 14 injured - and those who were supposed to protect them ran in the opposite direction.

The attacker, a 58-year-old man born in Moscow, opened fire in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv last Saturday. He then took hostages in a supermarket. He was killed in an exchange of fire with police - but only after two officers had already fled.

Interior Minister Igor Klimenko was direct: "Serve and protect isn't just a slogan. It must be reflected in proper professional conduct." Zelenskyy called the officers' actions "inactivity" and confirmed a criminal investigation has been opened.

Eight people remain hospitalized, one adult in critical condition. The weapon was legally registered - raising the question of how the attacker obtained a license renewal.

Ukraine fights a war where courage is a daily reality on the front lines. But when police officers flee from civilians who need them - that's a more devastating blow to trust than an enemy missile. The incident is being treated as a terrorist act, but the real question is: how many civilians will pay next time the system fails?
